Hombu-Registered Instructors and Trainers

Our mission for NinjaSelfDefense.com is to provide every student with easy access to the best possible training material so they can understand and advance. This plays a key role in our vision to make life mastery and inner peace attainable to anyone in the world through To-Shin Do training. One step towards the realization of that vision is a path to becoming an official To-Shin Do Trainer or Instructor.

A Hombu-Registered Trainer runs a training group, but does not award official rank in To-Shin Do. Ranking continues to be done through a local registered instructor or ninjaselfdefense.com. The process of becoming a Hombu-Registered Trainer is:

  1. Complete the online To-Shin Do Hombu-Registered Trainer course.
  2. Schedule a Trainer Evaluation for $199 which involves uploading a 20-minute video that shows you teaching one or more classes. You will be evaluated by a member of the Shihan Kai. This fee covers a criminal background check as well as the costs of evaluation.
  3. Maintain an active subscription at NinjaSelfDefense.com at Advanced (or higher) level.
  4. In order to maintain your Registered Trainer status you are required to do one of the following every year: attend the annual Ninja Festival, attend a training event with An-shu Stephen K. Hayes, or one of the Hombu Shihan, or schedule an online private with An-shu Stephen K. Hayes or An-shu Rumiko Hayes, or a Shihan.
  5. Make sure that every student that studies with you is a registered To-Shin Do member.

A Hombu-Registered Instructor is a Black Belt who runs a training group or a school, and can award official ranks in To-Shin Do (up to one rank below their current rank up to second degree). The process of becoming a Hombu-Registered Instructor is:

  1. Complete the online To-Shin Do Hombu-Registered Instructor courseware. This is several hours of online instruction.
  2. Schedule an Instructor Evaluation for $199 which involves uploading a 20-minute video that shows you teaching one or more classes. You will be evaluated by a member of the Shihan Kai. This fee covers a criminal background check as well as the costs of evaluation.
  3. Attend either An-shu’s April Black Belt Retreat or An-shu’s annual Ninja Festival every year. One of these events is required to maintain your Hombu-Registered Instructor status.
  4. Maintain an active subscription at NinjaSelfDefense.com at Advanced (or higher) level.
  5. Make sure that every student that studies with you is a registered To-Shin Do member.

One benefit to being a Hombu-Registered Trainer or Instructor is the ability to purchase a listing on NinjaSelfDefense.com. A listing will include your name, rank, location, web site and email address.

Please note that Hombu Registration is not a requirement to be a Trainer or Instructor that works at a dojo or training group owned by someone else.
